Look what Karter can do!
We were super proud of him. Karl only spent a few minutes with him before he was off and rolling.
He never crashed when he was first learning how. Karl told him when he was going to stop or felt like he was going to crash all he had to do was put his feet down. He followed instructions and did great!
He has since crashed several times because he is a little over confident. :)
It's fun to watch him ride his bike. You can see in his face and the way he holds his body that he is proud of himself and that he thinks he's pretty cool stuff.

I was reading my cousins blog this morning and it has sparked some major frustration in me. So beware this is going to be a ranting post.
My cousin Mindy's husband is serving our country in Iraq. He was deployed last year with the Idaho National Guard and will be gone a year.
They have four children. And they are now having to worry if they are going to be getting a paycheck for the sacrifice they are making on our behalf.
It is absolutely unacceptable that our government would allow this to be even a slight worry in our service men and women's lives. We have asked them to volunteer their lives for our safety...our congressman's safety. Should they have to do this while wondering how they are going to pay their bills?
My brother Seth joined the Army when he was 17. He had always wanted to join. It was a childhood dream.
He will be in the Army 12 years this summer. He is on his third deployment to Iraq. He has also been deployed to Kosovo and Africa with many stops in between.
He has lost friends. Friends who were more family than mere acquaintances.
He has dedicated his life to our country. This has come at a high personal price.

Seth is in the special forces. They are deployed for 6-9 months at a time and then home for 6 months. Last year when he was home from his second deployment to Iraq he had training and schools to attend across the country from where he was stationed.
Across the country from his daughter. A daughter that has now gotten old enough to understand that her dad is going to have to leave and that their time together is always short.
So even though he was home in America he was not "home" with his family. Out of the six months between deployments he was "home" for a total of two months. Not two months in a row, two months of combined weeks.
Our military personnel volunteer for this. They know and understand the risks and sacrifices. We live in a country where we are not required to serve it. We have freedom. Freedom that someone has to pay for.
I don't understand a lot of political things that go on. But I am not sure how this is even a consideration. Choosing to not pay people that ensure our safety is not an option. Can we say martial law?! Not sure they are the best people in the world to have upset.
I pray that our government will come to a decision on what they deem "nonessential expenses". Shame on them for making our military families have to have any unneeded stresses in a time like this. All the while they go home to a safe warm house with their family and money in the bank.
I love our soldiers. They are always close to my heart.
I miss my brother lots. Everyday.

Read my cousins postI think we need to always remember and recognize what is done for us to live in this country. These people are real and not just faces on the TV. They have lives, loved ones, hopes and dreams just like us. Yet these things are put on hold because they have a desire to serve our country. They are heroes.

Two times a year our church holds General Conference. This is a time for people of our faith all across the world to be able to come together whether in person or by satelite to gain guidance and inspiration from the leaders of our church.
We had General Conference this past weekend. The weekend before I was able to go to Salt Lake with my friend and her daughters to attend the Young Womens conference. In our church we have organizations in place for our youth to be able to learn the gospel and grow together. Young Womens is for girls ages 12-18. They meet together each Sunday as part of our church services and also meet for an activity on Tuesday nights.
I teach the 12 and 13 year olds. I love it! My previous calling was Activity Days which was for girls ages 8-11 and I was over the 10-11 year olds. I did this calling for three years.
So all the girls that I had in Activity Days I now have in Young Womens. They are the sweetest girls and I have really grown to love them.
Another activity they do each year in Young Womens is a girls camp in the summer. I never went to one when I was growing up so this will be my first year. I am excited to go but a little nervous. I have heard quite the stories about the pranks that are pulled at girls camp. I'll just have to be sure that I am the one pulling them not the victim.
Anywho...Young Womens conference is a chance for our girls to be talked to directly by the leaders of our church. It was a really neat experience and I am so glad I could go.

Tami, Sadie, Katelyn and yours truly
Our seats weren't together so Tami was nice and let Katelyn and I have the good seats on the floor while her and Sadie sat in the balcony.
Katelyn was one of the girls I had in activity days. I love this girl! She is such a sweet kid. My boys love her too. Especially Karter.
We do a lot with Tami and her girls and the boys have both picked one they are partial too. Karter will go to Katelyn first and Hudson will go to Sadie.

We had a fun girls weekend. We did some shopping at the fabulous Tai Pan and the ever wonderful Ikea. I don't know that those are two stores you should visit in the same day. Talk about an overload!
We stayed up late and giggled and talked. The Sadies shared a bed which got a little interesting the second night as Sadie P. got a little snuggly with Sadie B.
Since I don't have sisters my friends mean a lot to me. I have been blessed with some amazing friends in my life and I am so thankful for them. They are fabulous!

Karter's mind is always going. He asks a million questions a day. I know that he is trying to figure things out so Karl and I try to always give him an actual answer but that answer usually leads to another question and this can go on and on. Some of them are really funny and you wonder what in the world is he thinking at that moment for him to ask that.
We were driving around town yesterday and Karter asked me "why are we bigger than caterpillars?". Seriously what made him think of that? I love it! I need to be better and write them down so we can always have those memories and he can have a good laugh when he looks back on his life.
I had a suitcase upstairs the other day and the boys had been playing with it all morning. Funny how things like that can be so entertaining. I should get them out more often.

I gave the boys a snack and soon saw them huddled together with the front pocket of the suitcase unzipped and their snacks resting on the flap. I asked them what they were doing and Karter told me they were flying on an airplane and that was their lunch. I was quite impressed with his imagination! It's amazing what Cailou teaches your kids. :)

Hudson is quite the entertainer. He is so darn short and because of that everything he does seems a little funnier.
He has a band aid obsession. If anything hurts it gets a band aid and then it miraculously feels better.
One night he was in bed and kept whining that his lip hurt. He wanted a band aid but I didn't think it was necessary at 9pm to go in and give him one. So I did what any good mom does and I ignored his request. The next morning he comes to the side of my bed and I see this...

It took me a second to figure out what the heck the kid had on his face. But low and behold Dad had come to the rescue the night before and gave the poor kid a band aid.

He has also gotten himself quite the attitude lately. He screams and whines when he's told no, teases Karter constantly and if he asks for something only mom can do it...URRR!!!
Hudson had to have his turn playing with Karter's new life jacket. I'm not sure what purpose it was serving him. The pink hanger is his gun so I guess we could assume it's his bulletproof vest.
I learned very quickly when Karter was younger that even if boys aren't exposed to guns everything will still be used as one. It's totally in their nature.
The cowboy hat goes everywhere with Hud. We have three of them. They are all coming apart and I find the straw all over the house. I went to make Hudson's bed one morning and when I pulled back the covers his entire bed was covered in straw. He looked like he was sleeping in a barn! I had to lay down the law and make a rule of no hats in bed after that.
